Podcasts and Interviews

In addition to Melissa’s family friendly “BewilderBeasts” podcast, and a short run side project, “Totally Pawsome with Sip and Melissa” (NSFW), Melissa has been invited to talk dog shop with some of the top canine (and other) professionals in the world! Grab your favorite podcast app, download some episodes, and keep your ears happy- but do check if you have littles in the car, as some of these might be more spicy than others!

BewilderBeasts Pod

Unlike her other show (Totally Pawsome), this is a family friendly affair. Created for families to enjoy as a break from the loneliness of the 2020 pandemic, Melissa looked to animals and followed her curiosity down every rabbit hole about the ways animals intersect with humanity.

She tells the stories of how a horse is responsible for the FDA, how fish farts nearly caused bombs to fly between Russia and Sweden, a pigeon who saved 194 soldiers in WW2, and the honey bees who are trained to find landmines in Croatia. There are 121 episodes ready for your enjoyment at BewilderBeastsPod.com or wherever you listen to podcasts.

Positively Podcast, with Victoria Stilwell

Ever-curious Victoria Stilwell invited Melissa on to discuss six dogs in Kennebunk, Maine, who were trained to find the invasive Spotted Lantern Fly! Episode is on Youtube, or wherever you listen to podcasts!

“What Pet Dogs Can Do for Conservation”, June 24, 2025

Brain and Behaviour Podcast
(with Daniel Shaw)

The incomparable Dr. Daniel Shaw looks at different facets of training, behavior, humanity and the animal kingdom through a scientific and curious lens. In 2025, Daniel invited Melissa to come on where they discussed The Maine Six, and how Melissa’s background in human psychology helps in the most challenging of behavior cases.

Episode 15: Insights in Behaviour Cases with Melissa McCue-McGrath

Barks from the Bookshelf Podcast
(Steve Goodall, Nat Light, Corrin Goodall, and Jay Light)

Ep 12: Considerations for the City Dog (discusses Melissa’s first book and a new friendship is born! Steve first floats a dog training conference he’d like to do someday…which came true two years later!)

Ep 28: Christmas Special (the gang gets tipsy doing a very Covid Christmas on both sides of the pond …because 2020)

Ep. 64: Grumpy Cats Reunion (the gang discusses septic tanks and shenanigans, but also has a challenging conversation about compassion fatigue, breaking points, and how to ask for help)

Simplifying Shelter Behavior (Tom Candy)

In this episode with UK Superstar Tom Candy, Melissa and Tom discuss overwhelming environments near and dear to their hearts: Tom with rescues/shelters, and Melissa with urban environments, and how those environmental challenges overlap for dogs. What considerations should shelters and new dog owners make in placement decisions, as well as how can we support our dogs who go to live in the city?

Ep 20: Rex in the City

Dog Talk with Nick Benger

When Melissa and Nick each turned on their microphones, neither realized this would be a barnburner of an episode. Clocking in at a whopping 2 hours and 45 minutes, the conversation dove deep into what is more important in our industry: Obedience or Relationships? A must listen conversation that hits on all the big topics in our industry today, but maybe listen at 1.5 speed…

Episode 111: With Melissa McCue-McGrath, Training Pet Dogs

Planthropology with Vikram Baliga

Vikram, a horticultural expert and professor at Texas Tech University, invited Melissa to come on to speak about her experiences working with pet dogs to teach them how to find invasive species. It was also Melissa’s birthday, so she has a bit of the whiskey giggles throughout. Vikram answers the age old question: Does my dog love me?

(Yes, the answer is yes)

Episode 106: Conservation Dogs, Spotted Lantern Flies, and Horrifying Elevators with Melissa McCue-McGrath

Totally Pawsome: With Dr. Sip and Melissa

This is a short run podcast (17 episodes) created by two giggly best friends who happen to work in the pet care industry. Veterinarian Sip Siperstein, and animal trainer Melissa McCue-McGrath, wanted to bring to light what it’s like behind the doors that go “to the back” when it comes to our pets, tackling a controversial subject each week (what to feed our pets, vaccines, and more) and wash it all down with the most ridiculous news story about animals that would make David Attenborough clutch his pearls. Brought on by a special insanity that came along with being locked up for a year during COVID 19, the swearing flows like a river, and the mania is palpable. Some topics include a butt fungus that made cicadas sex crazy, and the infanticide intent behind the Quakka’s photogenic grin. So, put the kids to bed, get a beverage of your choice, and listen to this after dark animal podcast. This is Totally Pawsome.
